One of several practices that helps keep me in this state is Simon’s technique of focusing in detail for five minutes or so on something in the present; e.g. observing my own hands; closely scanning somebody’s face, and reporting my observations to them as I do so; observing a tree, a flower, anything really - I noticed a ladybird walking about on a tarmac path. I was soon totally absorbed in the contrast between its determined walking and its very erratic and overlapping track (eventually, there was an explanation - when it came across another ladybird ……..!) "
